Kecerovce

Kecerovce is a central municipality of Kecerovce-Olšava region. Out of all 3,580 residents 3,500 are Roma people, which is 98  %. In the 1980s, there was a nuclear power plant planned near Kecerovce and because of that a construcion closure was valid in Kecerovce. The paradox is that illegal constructions appeared in  Roma people´s settlements. This trend was supported by the revolution in 1989. A lot of Roma families lost their jobs and flats in Košice and they moved to their relatives´ houses to the countryside. In Kecerovce, there are 3 large Roma people´s settlements, the poorest of which is the location of Kecerovské Kostoľany. Here, we have started with legal housing construction intended for personal ownership. The municipality has prepared 21 house-building plots. The new neighborhood will include a community garden as a place for education and for spending one´s free time. The healthcare assistants of early childcare (omamas) have been working in the municipality for over 2 years now.
